Boarding Alpacas: A Great way to start your Herd

By Mike Safley

In the United States today there are 1000's of people interested in becoming full time alpaca breeders. Most of these aspiring farmers do not own a farm and they are often city dwellers. Many are contemplating a new life after they retire. These future alpaca farmers have two choices: 1) They can wait until they find a property and move into their country lifestyle to acquire their alpaca herd or 2) They can begin building a herd today and board the alpacas they acquire with an established alpaca breeder.

At Northwest Alpacas we have clients who board their alpacas with us while they are looking for a farm. Some of our boarders found farm property but are in the process of building a home or barns and fences. They are all looking forward to the day they see their alpacas pulling into the driveway. We have both local and cross country boarders.

At Northwest Alpacas we pride ourselves in offering a professional management system that includes:

  1. Up to date herd and health records
  2. A regularly scheduled weekly ranch visit by Dr. Paul Jones DVM
  3. Access to Studmaster males, for world class breeding services
  4. Annual shearing

Most of all we care about the well being of our client's animals. Click here to review our boarding contract. We can also help you create a marketing website and our clients are eligible to join the Ideal Alpaca Community which is a world class marketing and genetic improvement cooperative.

Northwest Alpacas has 23 years experience with full time alpaca care. We can appraise your cria, select an appropriate male for your female and care for her offspring from the moment of birth. We provide high quality services at a fair price. We are at the ranch everyday, you are welcome to visit, enjoy your animals and talk alpacas. If you have any questions about our boarding services feel free to call Fred Kraft at 503-628-3110 or email Fred@alpacas.com.
